JUDGE KLOPPENBURG FOR SUPREME COURT JUSTICE
Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg is running for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She faces a primary challenge on Tuesday, February 16, with general election on April 5.

Our current gerrymandered legislative districts are the “worst partisan gerrymanders in modern American history.” In many cases, our votes in such a district are meaningless.
In the last election, Democratic votes outnumbered Republican votes. Yet two-thirds of the State Assembly seats are held by Republicans. Something is drastically wrong.

WAUSAU MAYORAL CANDIDATES NEED TO DEBATE
In a press release today, I made a call for a public debate among the five mayoral candidates. Wausau residents have a right to hear, in a public forum, where each of the five mayoral candidates stands on issues that matter most to residents.
City Hall, under the current administration, has restricted the average resident’s ability to learn about and be involved in local government affairs. The CBL/Wausau Center meeting which only allowed about 20 members of the general public to attend is one recent example.

February 16….nonpartisan primaries
April 5….vote for a new Supreme Court justice and many local officials including every county board member, and Wisconsin’s Presidential Preference vote.
August 9….partisan primary (not including president)
November 8…elect President of the United States, all members of the State Assembly, half the State Senate and other local partisan positions.

As of this writing the governor and legislature are looking to overhaul the GAB or Government Accountability Board.
This board governs our elections and the use of money in campaigns. It also investigates violations of the state ethics code.
This board consists of six former judges and staff. It was formed in 2007 when both Republicans and Democrats were mired in scandals. The formation of the board was supported by both parties and was passed almost unanimously.
