BRING VOTER ID TO UNDERSERVED VOTERS…

By Jay Heck, Director of Common Cause/ Wisconsin Walker and WISDOT never even considered a Mobile Van Program to bring Voter ID to underserved voters. Some former Confederate States make it easier to obtain Voter ID than does Wisconsin. In June of 2015, Common Cause of Wisconsin and 12 other state and national public interest organizations sent this letter to Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) Secretary Mark Gottlieb requesting the establishment of a mobile Division of Motor Vehicles program. The program would have vehicles that visit under-served ...

DEAR DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE

DEAR DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE First, permit me to introduce myself. My name is John Spiegelhoff and I am a middle class voter in the Midwest. I have financially supported Democratic candidates mostly at the state and local levels. Since-really-all politics are local. Or so I have heard. So with that in mind, I wish to respond to your survey but not on the mind numbing pre-fill form that you sent me along with the obligatory “send us some ...

BLUE JEAN NATION REVIVAL

BLUE JEAN NATION REVIVAL SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20 NEENAH, WISCONSIN Blue Jean Nation has no interest in holding just another boring political convention with endless speeches. What we’ve got in mind is more like a New England-style town hall meeting – only with a twist inspired by digital-age social media. A “town hall tweeting” you might say, complete with a hearing where everyone who attends is invited to give oral “tweestimony” on how to fix the broken political system in 140 characters or less, with the best statements tweeted out live on Blue Jean ...

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN IOWA CAUCUS?

flag outline
(Katy Harle lives in Bettendorf, Iowa) What a night! It was exciting to see such a great turnout at our local Democratic caucus, people of all ages, including some parents who brought their elementary and middle-school-age children to watch and learn. The caucus was to begin promptly at 7 p.m. Lucky for us we arrived early and checked in within minutes. About 6:35 p.m. the line was very long. Evidently a lot of people came who needed to register; some of us were already registered. We carry our registration card with us. Our registration to vote allows us to attend ...
