WALK WITH OUR ANCESTORS
Respecting - Honoring - Acknowledging – Remembering
Certain persons of Menominee Indian Heritage, the Coalition to Save the Menominee River, private area landowners and others, joined in a Peaceful Awareness Walk amongst the Ancestors of the Menominee people. The location was Sixty Islands on the Menominee River west of Stephenson, Michigan.
The day began at sunrise with a water ceremony. The sunrise teachings help to deepen connections with the earth and strengthen the work of all. The ceremony was followed by opening words from area ...
Ban Censorship Not Books
“If this nation is to be wise as well as strong, if we are to achieve our destiny, then we need more new ideas for more wise men reading more good books in more public libraries. These libraries should be open to all – except the censor. We must know all the facts and hear all the alternatives and listen to all the criticisms. Let us welcome controversial books and controversial authors.” President John F Kennedy
Efforts to ban books and to censor what is taught in public schools have increased dramatically in the last two years. Since 2021, a handful of right-w...
DON’T DEFUND THE MARATHON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
On Wednesday, November 8, at 6 PM, the Wausau UU Social Justice will be having Beth Rosenberg Martin speak about the current state of things at the Marathon County Public Library and what we can do to become involved. MWN Shows Real Courage
Middle Wisconsin News should be praised for their journalistic courage exhibited in the October 16th edition. It takes real courage to buck the government, mainstream media and the majority of public thinking, especially on emotional topics like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
MWN should be commended for publishing Caitlin Johnston's article about Hamas' attack not being “unprovoked.” There have been over 100 years of provocation by Jewish settlers in Palestine and the Israeli government that continues today with the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West ...
UNPROVOKED! UNPROVOKED!
The following is an October 7, 2023 article, reprinted with permission, by Australian/American author Caitlan Johnston:
The illusory truth effect (also known as the illusion of truth effect, validity effect, truth effect, or the reiteration effect) is the tendency to believe false information to be correct after repeated exposure. This phenomenon was first identified in a 1977 study at Villanova University and Temple University. – Wikipedia
We’re seeing the western political/media class bleating the word “unprovoked” in unison again, this ...
The Threat to Small Press
Please join us for another exciting month at Women for Women Wisconsin. We will give you a little teaser here to start out.
The Threat to Small Press
We are so happy to feature Shereen Siewert and Nick Ramos on the threat that is facing small press along with the issue of freedom of the press in general.
Our overall program purpose is to provide information on the challenges facing the news landscape. With 1 in 5 newspapers closed in the last decade giving rise to on-line news initiatives and small independent news sources, we know there are new opportunities as ...
Nullifying Democracy in Wisconsin
Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly elected Justice Janet Protasiewicz to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In a record turnout, she received 1.2 million votes and won by 11%. But before she could hear a single case, Republicans were threatening to impeach her.
This outrageous call for impeachment is a blatant effort to nullify the election. If Republicans can overturn the election of Justice Protasiewicz, democracy is dead in Wisconsin. Who will be next? What outrageous maneuver to maintain their ill-gotten power and control will be next?
In America when ...
The Wisconsin Assembly Should Be Ashamed
This is a submission from Protect Our Wisconsin Retirement Security (POWRS). We are a volunteer, statewide group of retired teachers and public employees working (since Gov. Walker) to protect the state public retirement system, Social Security, Medicare, and advocate for better retirement options for all Wisconsin workers.
We are not a partisan group and this topic is outside our normal mission, but this attack on the integrity of our elections demands action.

Forcing Religious Beliefs in the Classroom is not Condoned
America is changing and becoming something new. That is the purpose of teaching history. It is important to know what we have been, and, as importantly, what we have not been. With current politicians basing some of their electoral appeal on interpretations of U.S. history, it is more important than ever to teach as accurate and fact-based narrative as possible. That goes for the history of our religious past. as well.
Our founding fathers realized that no group is more dangerous to the social fabric of a country than religious extremists who believe they only ...
Commonwealth Spirituality
Here in northern Wisconsin, on Tuesday night, August 15, 2023, the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors defeated, by a vote of 13-9, a resolution calling for a county-wide referendum on the funding of the county-owned nursing home, Pine Crest. Over one hundred people—many of them elderly, some in wheelchairs—were in attendance in the big room where supervisors meet. Over half-a-dozen citizens spoke, all in favor of the resolution, including one man who pointed out that a ten-year $8 per month price tag (the property tax increase) offered an astonishingly inexpensive ...
