HIS FIGHT, OUR FIGHT
(Denele blogs from Arkansas. You can read more at DeneleCampbell.org.)
According to the brief description that accompanied this photo that crossed my Facebook timeline the other day, the funeral of Pretty Boy Floyd drew the largest attendance of any such event in Oklahoma history. The image gives me goosebumps, almost puts a lump in my throat. It’s not the coffin—I can’t even discern where it is. It’s the people, backs straight, their attention focused entirely on the dead man.
On what he represented.
My dad sometimes talked about Pretty Boy Floyd although ...
THE SKY IS GREEN AND GRASS IS BLUE
THE SKY IS GREEN AND GRASS IS BLUE
This is the now famous photograph of the “Napalm Girl” and of the Vietnamese children fleeing because aircraft from the United States of America were dumping the chemical weapon napalm on their village. Napalm was designed to stick to the human body and burn off the skin.
This is a photograph of a Vietnamese woman holding a child who has been burned by napalm. The dropping of napalm and Agent Orange by the United States over Vietnam is likely the greatest use of chemical weapons in world history. Thousands of Vietnamese ...
Joan Baez Goes Viral With Trump Protest Song
"Here's a little song/about a man gone wrong/while building up his evil empire"
Joan Baez, protest singer of the peace and civil rights movements of the 1960s, has gone viral with a protest song for today's Trump era, called "Nasty Man."
The song features roses in the Rose Garden telling President Donald Trump that he "owes the Earth a pardon;" pokes fun at the president for his border wall plans and Melania Trump's notable absence from the White House; and suggests that he "better talk to a shrink" for his "serious psychological disorders."
In the song, Baez ...
CITIZEN ACTION MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Citizen Action North Central Wisconsin Co-op member Hans Breitenmoser Jr. spearheaded a successful effort to pass a non-partisan redistricting resolution on the Lincoln County Board last week.
By roll call vote, Lincoln County Democrats and Republicans stood up together and said our system for drawing these lines is fundamentally flawed and needs to be changed.
A copy will be sent to the Governor, the Counties Association, the Towns Association, the League of Municipalities, all members of the state legislature and to each Wisconsin county.
In Wausau co-op members ...

2 EVENTS IN WAUSAU
WEEK OF MARCH 20
The first event is at 11 AM, and it takes place at Sean Duffy's Wausau Office, 208 Grand Ave, 54403, this Tuesday, March 21st.
Rep. Duffy, and the House Republicans are set to vote on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) sometime next week. We would like express opposition to this replacement of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as it will block access to affordable healthcare for over 22 million Americans, make the cost of healthcare even higher for the elderly, and raise costs on those with ...
HOW TO HOLD ON TO A DEMOCRACY EVEN IN A POLARIZED NATION
(reprinted under Creative Commons agreement from YES magazine)
Donald Trump’s obvious affection for authoritarians is prompting worried comparisons of our polarized country to the polarized Germany of the 1920s and ‘30s. Since I’m known to see in polarization both crisis and opportunity, my friends are asking me these days about Hitler, the worst-case scenario.
I grant the possibility of the United States going fascist, but argue that will not happen if we choose the practical steps taken by progressive Nordic social movements when they faced dangerous polari...
SEND THEM BACK TO KINDERGARTEN
“They hurt people.” This was my friend's comment a few years ago about reactionary Republicans. My friend isn't a liberal activist. Although he votes, he isn't political or opinionated in any significant way. He is a small business owner, husband, and father busy supporting his family and being a good neighbor. But I was impressed with his simple, but accurate, summary of the impact of conservative ideology.
I am reminded of John McCutcheon's song “The Kindergarten Wall.” This happy little song talks about what we all should have learned in kindergarten. Many ...
YOUNG AND OLD
Young and old, women and men joined together on the 400 Block in the center of downtown Wausau, March 4th, to raise awareness of the issues confronting us as a “people” living on planet earth. The March was organized by Women for Women of Marathon County. We opened with The Pledge of Allegiance and This Land is Your Land. We closed as one united people singing This Land Is Your Land.
Here are comments from “we the people” who stand united and want a more just and healthier world to leave to our children, grandchildren, and future generations. Each person I ...

A WAY OUT OF NO WAY
“A Way Out of No Way: Women, Labor, and Justice Today” was the theme for The 17th Annual Faith-Labor Breakfast of the Interfaith Coalition for Worker Justice of South Central Wisconsin, February 13th, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison.
The meeting opened with a Responsive Prayer For Justice.
Pray for those who are hungry. Pray harder for those who will not feed them.
Pray for those who struggle each week to pay their bills. Pray harder for the wealthy who do not care.
Pray for those who are homeless. Pray harder for those who deny them shelter.
