HIS FIGHT, OUR FIGHT
(Denele blogs from Arkansas. You can read more at DeneleCampbell.org.)
According to the brief description that accompanied this photo that crossed my Facebook timeline the other day, the funeral of Pretty Boy Floyd drew the largest attendance of any such event in Oklahoma history. The image gives me goosebumps, almost puts a lump in my throat. It’s not the coffin—I can’t even discern where it is. It’s the people, backs straight, their attention focused entirely on the dead man.
On what he represented.
My dad sometimes talked about Pretty Boy Floyd although ...

Hopefully our government will be open for business and working on a budget agreement by then, but if not, at least we can enjoy some good beer with friends. Hope to see you.

QUOTATIONS
“We seemingly tolerate a rising level of violence that ignores our common humanity and our claims to civilization alike. We calmly accept newspaper reports of civilian slaughter in far off lands. We glorify killing on movie and television screens and call it entertainment. We make it easy for men of all shades of sanity to acquire weapons and ammunition they desire.”
--Robert F. Kennedy, 1967
“All of the amazing people in the world will always outnumber the criminals.”

THE SKY IS GREEN AND GRASS IS BLUE
THE SKY IS GREEN AND GRASS IS BLUE
This is the now famous photograph of the “Napalm Girl” and of the Vietnamese children fleeing because aircraft from the United States of America were dumping the chemical weapon napalm on their village. Napalm was designed to stick to the human body and burn off the skin.
This is a photograph of a Vietnamese woman holding a child who has been burned by napalm. The dropping of napalm and Agent Orange by the United States over Vietnam is likely the greatest use of chemical weapons in world history. Thousands of Vietnamese ...
SENDING MESSAGES
Two big news stories of the last week are the missile attack on Syria and the “mother of all bombs” being used in Afghanistan. The juxtaposition of these stories with the April tax filing deadline is so ironic it demands comment. These two attacks on other countries are classic examples of why we have budget problems. These stories also speak volumes about who we think we are, vs who we actually are, as a society.
The U.S. attacked an airbase in Syria with 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government. Our ...

Joan Baez Goes Viral With Trump Protest Song
"Here's a little song/about a man gone wrong/while building up his evil empire"
Joan Baez, protest singer of the peace and civil rights movements of the 1960s, has gone viral with a protest song for today's Trump era, called "Nasty Man."
The song features roses in the Rose Garden telling President Donald Trump that he "owes the Earth a pardon;" pokes fun at the president for his border wall plans and Melania Trump's notable absence from the White House; and suggests that he "better talk to a shrink" for his "serious psychological disorders."
In the song, Baez ...
Build Diplomacy Not Bombs
“Even though tiny – only 1 percent – the leverage that foreign aid exerts on behalf of U.S. security interests is incredible.” Lt. Gen. Dan Christman, U.S. Army retired.
“...if you don’t fund the State Department fully then I need to buy more ammunition...” Gen James “Mad Dog” Mattis, Secretary of Defense, testifying as Commander of the Central Command in March 2013 before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The Trump administration's budget plan calls for increasing military spending by $54 billion (about 10%). This will be “paid” for by ...
Who Cares About Us?
More than 40 people were facing eviction from their “homes” if the Annabelle Apartments on Bridge Street were torn down to make room for another Kwik-Trip. We sat down with them and heard:
**“This is a community. We look out for each other.” “We’re like a family.”
**“We have a vested interest to keep this place safe, quiet, and peaceful.”
**“We’re in a panic.” “I don’t want to sleep under a bridge.” “I don’t want to be homeless again.”
***”Where will we go?” “This is about a person’s dignity.”
Although, Kwik-T...
