NANCY MACLEAN’S DIRE WARNING
By Wisconsin Democracy Campaign
Our democracy is at a “historic turning point,” said Nancy MacLean, the author of “Democracy in Chains,” on May 3 in Madison, where she was the keynote speaker at the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign’s annual celebration.
The Duke University historian likened our current situation to two other perilous periods in U.S. history: the Civil War and the 1930s. In both those periods, she said, “the property supremacists” were trying to prevail over the advocates of democracy.

Protect Workers
We are calling on politicians in Madison to immediately take up a number of pro-worker bills designed to boost wages, promote pay equity, ensure fair scheduling and protect retirement security.
The Legislature should hold an immediate vote on bills that protect Wisconsin’s workers and move our working families forward. A number bills, outlined below, that support and uplift working families have languished in committees since their introduction. Now is the time for these bills to receive a vote.
The Fair Scheduling Act (AB 866)

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE RURAL URBAN DIVIDE
By Sarah van Gelder, YES magazine
I thought I knew something about Wisconsin politics. I assumed the state was neatly divided between blue cities, like Madison and Milwaukee, and solidly red rural areas that twice elected Governor Scott Walker, one of the nation’s most right-wing governors, and went for Donald Trump in 2016.
Turns out there’s a lot I didn’t know. And the assumptions and stereotypes that I—and many others—hold are dividing us and harming our chances of building powerful coalitions across rural–urban divide.
In early February, I visited ...

CONFOUNDS THE SCIENCE
LYRICS to CONFOUNDS THE SCIENCE
(Written by Don Caron – Music by Simon & Garfunkel)
Hello darkness my old friend.
It’s time for him to tweet again,
but first he’ll have to check in with fox news
‘cause that’s the only place he gets his clues.
That’s how things get planted in his brain,
where they remain,
and it confounds the science.
The problem is he’s not alone.
He tweets to people on his phone
that global warming is a giant hoax
perpetuated by the liberal folks,
and he hires people that all think the same,
that play his game
and it ...
Doing Your Part
I have written in the past about not losing hope in these troubled political times. Good change can come if good people get active. In the past there were many people who did organize and advocate for change. All that is good about our current society is the result of these people's activism. Some of these people were the great men and women we read about in the history books. But many were unsung, unknown people who did the small things needed to build progress.
Democracy is not a spectator sport. Democracy must have citizens that do their part. They don't have to be ...
COME CELEBRATE WITH NORTH CENTRAL ORGANIZING CO-OP
The Citizen Action of Wisconsin North Central Organizing Co-op has a lot to celebrate!
2017 was not an easy year for many of us, but we have seen a level of activism over the past 12+ months that inspires hope. Our organizing co-op has over 200 dues paying members and thousands of supporters who are willing to help us organize around important issues and elections.
They helped lead the fight (with other organizing co-ops and allies) to resist the repeal and replacement of the ACA, worked with the Fair Maps Coalition to get over 30 County boards to pass resolutions ...
