WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND HE IS US
What’s missing from the debate about our borders? The reason why.
People don’t just pick up and leave their ancestral homes and extended families without a good reason. In so doing, they face a dangerous and expensive journey in search of a new home. Yet despite the risks and hardship, these folks feel they have no choice.
What we hear is news about brown-skinned folks mobbing our borders, crossing rivers and sneaking into the promised land. We see them standing in lines, tear-stained kids’ faces, our media swamped with shouting heads about illegal immigration. ...
PASS FAIR MAPS LEGISLATION
The U.S. Supreme Court sent the Gill v Whitford case back to the district court, effectively leaving Wisconsin’s unconstitutional election maps in place for the 2018 election. This ruling leaves the onus on Wisconsin to protect voters from gerrymandering for the time being.
“The courts didn't fix our current unfair maps, and politicians won't either. We, the people, want fair maps. We do not want partisan politicians to continue fighting over our maps in court and wasting taxpayer money. Wisconsin needs a nonpartisan process for drawing our election maps,” said ...

POP-UP GROUPS FIX OUR BROKEN POLITICS
Pop-up groups also known as grassroots groups are showing up in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio and North Carolina. Women from the ages of 30 to 70 are saying Enough is Enough to current politics. They are organizing at the local level and running for political office.
The media outlets have just recently mentioned this new energy not in the rural or urban areas but in suburbs of Middle America. Since the election of Trump, women new to politics are forming groups. This is no leftist Tea Party or a repeat of Sanders versus Clinton. This is a new movement.
The women are ...
NANCY MACLEAN’S DIRE WARNING
By Wisconsin Democracy Campaign
Our democracy is at a “historic turning point,” said Nancy MacLean, the author of “Democracy in Chains,” on May 3 in Madison, where she was the keynote speaker at the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign’s annual celebration.
The Duke University historian likened our current situation to two other perilous periods in U.S. history: the Civil War and the 1930s. In both those periods, she said, “the property supremacists” were trying to prevail over the advocates of democracy.
Today, the Koch Brothers and their big-donor network ...
Protect Workers
We are calling on politicians in Madison to immediately take up a number of pro-worker bills designed to boost wages, promote pay equity, ensure fair scheduling and protect retirement security.
The Legislature should hold an immediate vote on bills that protect Wisconsin’s workers and move our working families forward. A number bills, outlined below, that support and uplift working families have languished in committees since their introduction. Now is the time for these bills to receive a vote.

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE RURAL URBAN DIVIDE
By Sarah van Gelder, YES magazine
I thought I knew something about Wisconsin politics. I assumed the state was neatly divided between blue cities, like Madison and Milwaukee, and solidly red rural areas that twice elected Governor Scott Walker, one of the nation’s most right-wing governors, and went for Donald Trump in 2016.
Turns out there’s a lot I didn’t know. And the assumptions and stereotypes that I—and many others—hold are dividing us and harming our chances of building powerful coalitions across rural–urban divide.
