The Legacy of Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson
As you may or may not know, a committee has been working on a way to adequately preserve the legacy of our Chief Justice.
After 2 years, the work has been completed.
The Reading Room of the Wis Historical Society has been dedicated to her with a portrait of her on display.
A website honoring her life has been developed, ShirleyAbrahamson.org
A traveling exhibit is now on display in Wausau after a month in Madison. In September it moves to UWM and City Hall in Milwaukee and then onto other cities throughout Wisconsin.
A prize in her name has ...
Abortion?! In the Bible?!
Abortion is not in the Bible! This is claimed over and over by many Theistic commentators. A-B-O-R-T-I-O-N, the word, is not found in the Bible. However, many references to the termination of pregnancy are found. The termination of pregnancy is abortion.
First, there is Hosea 13:16. From the King James Version: “16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.”
Today, in Israel Samaria is known as the ...
Wisconsin Primary and Strategic Voting
Wisconsin has a primary election on August 9th. How much do people know about the candidates and issues for this election? Local local news sources offer little of value. This article tries to help people in Douglas County and NW Wisconsin get the information they need to be informed voters.
Primary elections are just as important as the general election. If you don't have good candidates winning the primary you don't have good choices later and we all wind up with bad political leadership.
To begin with, people in Douglas County need to be aware that their ...

2022 State Democratic Convention
In response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler, 1st Vice Chair Felesia Martin, and 2nd Vice Chair Lee Snodgrass issued the following statement:
“Today, the Supreme Court, aided and abetted by anti-abortion extremists in Congress, has failed our country and state by taking away Americans’ right to make their own medical decisions. Overturning Roe v. Wade directly contradicts the will of the public, advice of countless medical professionals, and decades of settled precedent and jurisprudence. As a ...
July 4, What a Strange Day This Will Be
It’s an understatement to say that most of us have to swallow REALLY hard to show patriotism to a country that just overturned Roe, and one in which an entire party is still parroting the “Big Lie” that has been repeatedly disproven for the last year and a half, but most recently by courageous Republican witnesses in the January 6 hearings.
How do we watch fireworks and listen to the “Stars and Stripes” when our country is so sick?
Well, like any good Midwesterner, I’d suggest channeling our innate passive aggression, putting on a happy face, pushing ...
Ron Johnson’s Ads Are Ridiculous
I normally do not watch much television but will tune in to CBS Sunday Morning. Most of the time, I am blissfully spared the ridiculous political adverts that are known to cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and high blood pressure; all things I could do without.
This last Sunday morning, I tuned in early to watch a bit of fluff known as local news coverage; basically, sports and weather. A lot of people running for office look to buy up time during local news programming, and none are taking up more air than Ron Johnson.
It is laughable that he is trying to run as ...
Supreme Politics
The recent big news story is the Supreme Court's leaked draft of the upcoming decision to overturn Roe vs Wade. This should be no surprise. It has long been expected.
Obama was outrageously denied an appointment and Trump made three appointments to the Court. These three judges were deliberately chosen for their opposition to abortion and their extreme positions on other issues. The current Supreme Court is a glaring example of a “packed” court dominated by extreme right wing ideologues. These judges are not impartial arbiters of the law.

Retirement Issues and WI Candidates: U.S. Senate and WI Treasurer
To better inform Wisconsin voters, Protect Our Wisconsin Retirement Security (POWRS) surveyed the U.S. Senate candidates on retirement, Social Security and Medicare issues. We sent the survey to all the declared Democratic candidates and to the Republican incumbent.
We only received replies from four Democratic candidates: Mandela Barnes, Sarah Godlewski, Alex Lasry, and Tom Nelson.

Comparing the U.S. Senate Candidates on Retirement Issues
Wisconsin – and the nation – is facing a retirement security crisis. Many people will have inadequate income for a secure retirement. Many will only have Social Security to live on. Many will not be able to “retire” at all. Over 400,000 seniors in Wisconsin will be living in poverty by 2030. As a result, Wisconsin will need to spend an additional $3.5 billion on public assistance programs.
These problems are not self-correcting and won't be fixed by free market “solutions.” Government must act to address the retirement crisis. This includes consolidating and ...
