Potential for Mining in Taylor County
The potential location for the Taylor County Mine (Green Light Wisconsin) is along the Yellow River in Taylor County, Wisconsin. The Yellow River enters into the Chippewa River at a location in Chippewa County near Kamp Kenwood (Wisconsin Farmer's Union).
It appears there is not an organized group in Taylor County concerned about this mine. If there was a spill or breach at this mine, no doubt it would flow into the Yellow River. Sludge and heavy metals could then flow downstream into Lake Wissota which is part of the Chippewa River system.

Not long back Middle Wisconsin shared a story with you, “The Photo of One Hundred Shares.” The photo and story were about the Porcupine Mountains State Park and the potential mining there. It is time to update you on that possibility of mining on State Park land, under the Presque Isle River and possibly even under Lake Superior. On Tuesday, March 14, the Wausau City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In approving the resolution Wausau has committed themselves to developing an energy plan and moving the city to becoming 100% clean energy by 2050.
