A Kingdom, Power, and Glory Book Club Review

The public establishment of Christianity may be considered as one of the most important and domestic revolutions which excite the most lively curiosity, and afford the most valuable instruction. The victories and the civil policy of Constantine no longer influence the state of Europe; but a considerable portion of the globe still retains the impression which it received from the conversion of that monarch; and the ecclesiastical institutions of his reign are still connected, by an indissoluble chain, with the opinions, the passions, and the interests of the present ...

Perfect Is The Enemy of The Good

“We’d all like to vote for the best man, but he’s never a candidate.” Kin Hubbard (1868-1930), an American cartoonist, humorist and journalist. “How come we choose from just two people to run for president and 50 for Miss America?” Anonymous I have been reading about and hearing from progressive's who are not happy with President Biden. He is too old, too corporate, too harsh on immigrants, too soft on environmental issues and most significantly he is a war monger. He got us into another no-win war in Ukraine. Even worse he is complicit in the crimes ...

We Can’t Soar With Turkeys

“It’s hard to soar with the eagles when you’re surrounded by turkeys.” This saying is insulting to turkeys. The wild turkeys in my neighborhood are beautiful, intelligent birds with strong and adaptable survival skills. Perhaps this is why Ben Franklin proposed having the turkey as our national bird. Palestine March Week Three of Four, Part one: The Photos

Poverty Violence

Poverty extends to more than homelessness, as almost half our population here in the Wausau lives with it. That’s right, almost 40% of the Wausau area is one disaster away from poverty. It affects almost 80% of single women with a child under the age of 5. Add another layer to that, we are combatting a system that doesn’t acknowledge that there are people with mental and physical health conditions. Poverty is the 4th leading cause of death in this country. We live in a system of greed and power. This is plain and simple….poverty violence. Addressing “homelessn...

HOMELESS IN AMERICA

Homelessness has become a serious problem across every town and city in America. It taxes city councils and police departments alike. Yet homelessness across the nation is set to double in the next 5 years. This problem isn’t going away. In reality, there is little city councils or law enforcement can do to solve this problem. The roots of homelessness are national. Cities like Wausau, WI must deal with the immediate problems, but real solutions are outside of their control. Addressing concerns at the national level often seems hopelessly out of reach. But there is ...

Palestine Week Three of Four: Part Two: Peace Dialogue Friends

Each day a cease fire in Gaza is more imperative.  An enduring and sustained ceasefire is essential for all people. Our second Gaza pilgrimage this past Saturday brought 30 people joining in the walk. We were all heartened to hear car horns honking in solidarity for the cause. Please consider joining us this coming Saturday, March 30  at 10 am in Rib Mountain. We will park over near the corner of Hobby Lobby’s lot. Please park nearer to the road so as not to hamper anyone needing parking for shopping. Saturday, April 6, 10 AM, we will be at the intersec...
