Why a Lightweight, Privacy-First Monero Wallet Still Matters Today

Whoa! I remember the first time I tried a web wallet for Monero; it felt like walking into a tiny dark room with a single, bright lamp. That first impression stuck with me because it revealed a trade-off I didn't expect: convenience versus the subtle risks around keys and metadata. Initially I thought a browser interface would be insecure, but then I realized that good design can actually reduce risk by keeping things simple and user-focused. On one hand you want powerful privacy features, though actually you also want something that doesn't demand a cryptographer's ...

International Women’s Day in Wausau

We had a sunny but blustery morning on Saturday,  March 8, 2025. About 40 people attended the International Women's Day March this year along Rib Mountain Drive. Many were holding signs for Susuan Crawford who is running for the State Supreme Court.

Medicaid Town Hall

On March 4th, many of us had a powerful lobby day at the Capitol. We spent the day talking with our legislators about issues that matter most. Even though we disagree on many fronts, we did say thank you for the Medicaid postpartum care. Thank you for going against your party on this.  We need more citizens to stand up and speak out. We are thankful for Citizen Action to make this possible. It's important to note that Medicaid has not yet been cut. The fight continues and it's time for all of us to get involved. The budget resolution directs the budget outlines ...

A Supreme Court rerun in Wisconsin

If you are feeling deja vu about the Wisconsin Supreme Court election you are not imagining things. You have seen this movie before. The election on Tuesday, April 1st  is a rerun of the 2020 and 2023 contests. The names have changed but the issues are the same.   In 2020 and 2023 Jill Karofsky and Janet Protasiewicz, both liberal jurists, won their elections defeating conservative Dan Kelly. Kelly had been appointed to the Supreme Court in 2016 by Gov. Scott Walker. The victory of Protasiewicz created a liberal majority on the court after many years of ...

RETURN OF THE ROBBER BARRONS 2.0

Cartoon from North Dakota Non-Partisan Leader 01/07/1918 The Non-Partisan League was formed by the farmers of N.D. because neither the Republicans nor the Democrats of that time were serving their interests. The League would go on to establish the public Bank of North Dakota in 1919 which serves the people of N.D. to this day. https://digitalhorizonsonline.org/digital/collection/ppf/id/24648/rec/2 Most Americans are becoming alarmed and shocked by the current assault on various long-established Federal Programs by the Trump Administration and the so-called ...

Wisconsin April 1st Election

The Wisconsin election happening on Tuesday April 1st has three important items on the ballot. A Supreme Court justice will be elected (which I talked about last week). Another is a  constitutional amendment – this one on voting rights. Voters will also choose a Secretary for the Department of Public Instruction.   I suggested last week that this election has an element of deja vu because the issues and impact on Wisconsinites are a repeat of other recent elections. The candidates and details are different, but the basic contest is whether Wisconsin will move ...

Why I Still Trust a Bitcoin Hardware Wallet — and How to Get Trezor Suite Right

Okay, so check this out—I've been messing with crypto for years. Wow! My instinct said cold storage was the only sane option when prices climbed, and that gut feeling stuck. Initially I thought software wallets would do for casual use, but then I lost a small stash to a phishing email and that changed everything. On one hand convenience matters, though actually security practices matter more when you're dealing with real money. Here's what bugs me about custody conversations. People talk about keys like they're abstract math. Really? Your private key is a thing that ...

Why an Exchange-Linked Wallet Can Be the Pragmatic Edge for Institutional Traders

I've been deep in crypto infrastructure for years. My first impression of institutional wallets was wary, kinda skeptical at the start. Then I dug into how OKX integrates custody, trading rails, and multi-chain access. Whoa! There are real practical trade-offs between self-custody freedom and exchange-synced convenience, and traders need clarity when choosing. Institutional features matter a lot. Custody layers, compliance tooling, and role-based access control are table stakes now. Initially I thought custody was just about keys, but then realized operational workflows ...

Changing Hearts and Minds

Hi Friends, I  attended this very workshop held by Planned Parenthood in January. I walked away with a renewed sense of optimism! The presentation we will have is a little shorter version, but impactful just the same. We have such a wonderful opportunity to learn how to hold those difficult conversations. We will learn about oursleves and others, how not to make assumptions, how to be better at showing empathy and really listening to the other person. Think about what you want to say and what you want to stay away from saying. Find that one-on-one opportunity and ...
