BECAUSE THERE CAN NEVER BE TOO MANY THINGS HAPPENING AT ONCE
Because there can never been too many things happening at once:
For those of you who have been following the progress of Tom Tiffany’s bill to rename our unique Lakeshore Park to a National Park, the House tacked it on as an amendment to the Budget which passed last week.
Despite strong local opposition by County Boards, Municipal officials and local citizens, including a resolution from the Red Cliff and local Bayfield citizens, Tom Tiffany is pursuing this thru the federal budget process-sneaking a small funding under the “new” name. The ultimate goal is clearly to loosen regulations and expand “investment” by the rich for the rich, ultimately turning this more remote destination into a playground for those needing expansive resorts and marinas.
It is now at the Senate, which is scheduling and holding its markups. I do not know in which committee it will land (should be Interior).
But now is the time to call your Senators to express your thoughts, hopes and dreams for their actions on this bill..
I am also enclosing a selection of the Senators on the Senate Appropriations Committee whom you will want to contact.
Thank you.

EXTRA INFORMATION:
- Local & Tribal Opposition: Pocan noted that the federal government should listen to local stakeholders, as the plan is widely opposed by the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Bayfield County officials, and nearby municipalities. [1, 2]
- Resource Strain: Critics—including local officials and Pocan—argue that the area is already heavily visited in the summer and lacks the necessary infrastructure and staffing to support the massive influx of tourists a National Park designation would bring.

Pocan has voiced his thoughts on the matter across several platforms, including updates on his official Representative Mark Pocan Facebook Page and statements made during House Appropriations Committee proceedings.
