Be Bold and Be Unapologetic
Be bold and be unapologetic.
The No Kings Rallies across the nation serve as the perfect example of this. Look at the enormous crowds of people who are rising up, making their voices heard over the monied interests that are dictating this country, that’s right – DICTATING.
The working class has spoken with a message of truth and sincerity. Our elected officials need to start listening. Stop being afraid to speak up, stop being moderate, stop apologizing. A market that is rigged for the wealthy and business as usual is not cutting it anymore.
This last week we saw what can be when you listen and you are bold and speak out. Zohran Mamdani, a thirty-three-year-old legislator from New York did just that. Mamdani won in an eleven-person field. It is grand to see things shaken up a bit!
Mamdani believes in people, he believes in building an infrastructure that helps people be productive. He listened as the people said they need childcare that is affordable, they are asking for affordable housing, education, and to have reasonable healthcare. This is grassroots and this is building from the bottom up. This is what average people want and need.
We see this in our own state as the budget struggles continue. A bold and unapologetic Brooke Legler, co-founder of Wisconsin Early Childhood Action Needed (WECAN) spoke on the Capitol steps saying, “They subsidize farmers. They subsidize the manufacturers. During the last session when they denied the funding for Child Care Counts … they gave $500 million to the Brewers. I have an issue with them saying they can’t subsidize.” We need to be straightforward like Brooke and make these monied souls answer to us. Call them out! Keep reminding people over and over, call them out! These legislators who fail to step up and do what is right by the people will cost all of us in the working class more money in the long run.
Keep showing up. Continue to call and email your legislators. Fight with your heart for what you believe in and use that fire in your belly to drive you. We don’t stand a chance if we let it be business as usual. The tide will turn at some point and we need to keep pushing until it does.
